Off-duty soldier allegedly kills man in St Mary garage dispute
ST MARY, Jamaica — An off-duty soldier reportedly shot and killed a man at a garage in Annotto Bay, St Mary on Sunday following an argument.
Police reports are that 24-year-old Tajay Wilson, a businessman of Iteboreale district in Annotto Bay, was at a garage at Top Bay along with a 45-year-old mechanic and an off-duty member of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) whose vehicle was allegedly being examined.
An argument developed between Wilson and the soldier, and during the confrontation, the soldier, who is said to be a licensed firearm holder, reportedly discharged his firearm, hitting both Wilson and the mechanic.
Wilson was taken to the Annotto Bay Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The mechanic sustained an injury to his left elbow and was treated.
The St Mary police say the firearm was seized for ballistic testing, the Jamaica Defence Force was notified, and investigations are continuing.
