KINGSTON, Jamaica—First One Music chief executive officer Brooke Vernon has spent years helping overlooked artistes find their lane. Now, the Brooklyn-based producer has found his biggest record yet—and it is flashing red.

Vernon, the driving force behind First One Music LLC, teamed up with dancehall veteran Future Fambo — aka Fambizzle — for the summer scorcher Red Light, Pepper Light, a collaboration he says has become the biggest hit of his production career.

“This is my biggest hit,” Vernon said, pointing to the song’s growing traction in New York. “Red Light Pepper Light is playing on this station upstate New York, it’s playing in the clubs in Rochester, New York, and in the clubs in Brooklyn, NYC…it’s really gathering momentum.”

The YouTube audio for Red Light Pepper Light has generated over 1.16 million streams across the song’s official YouTube releases.

The official audio has racked up 474,000 views while the music video has over 605,000 on the First One Music channel. The track has generated over 46,000 streams on Spotify, with significant streaming numbers on TikTok and Instagram.

The success arrives at an especially satisfying moment for Vernon, who says the record is helping First One Music celebrate nine years in business.

The Brooklyn-based label was created out of Vernon’s love for music and his desire to provide opportunities for talented artistes who were struggling to attract industry attention.

“What inspired me to start this label is that I loved the music so much and I saw where some of the youths were not getting enough attention,” he explained. “So I decided to start my label to help some of these artistes and push them in the right direction.”

Over the years, First One Music has worked with a mixture of emerging and established acts, including Singer D, Calico Flames, Dre Blacks, Chris Crown and Nkosi.

But the Future Fambo collaboration represents a significant step forward.

“Brooke is a great producer and it is great to see that the track, Red Light, Pepper Light is having so much success,” Future Fambo said.

“Red Light, Pepper Light has begun moving beyond its online audience and into clubs and radio rotation, giving Vernon the kind of real-world response producers crave.

The breakthrough also adds another layer to Vernon’s already colourful creative résumé.

A visual artist with a passion for sculpture, Vernon balances music production with his work as a chef. In the studio, however, his musical appetite stretches across reggae, dancehall, hip-hop and R&B, with an emphasis on wholesome records capable of reaching a broad audience.

His ambition for First One Music remains rooted in artiste development. Vernon wants to provide a platform where promising acts can receive the attention and direction often difficult to secure in a crowded music industry.
