The $1.75-million Distinctly Irish Trophy, a Graded Stakes/Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over 9 furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) is the feature race on tomorrow’s 10-race card at Caymanas Park.

The Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a close look at the six runners down to face the starter and their chances of winning.

1. BARNABY (USA): (5 b h Tapiture – Giants Diva) — He is the class of the race. Barnaby was third in the Diamond Mile on July 25 behind Phenomenal Power and Girvano in a fast 1:36.3 over a mile. He won on April 26 over this distance in a decent 1:54.2 and has been training well coming into this. He is coming in fresh with 62 days rest — and that rest is the key. He needs a pace to run at which he should get here from his stablemates Neo Star and Miss Grove. Expect Barnaby to put these away.

2. KING PIYE: (5 ch h Admiral Alex – Jamaican Pharaoh) — Only in here to make up numbers for the barn. Has no chance whatsoever of winning or impacting the outcome.

3. RUN JULIE RUN: (5 gr m Successful Native – Runaway Julie) — Very consistent runner.
Run Julie Run was third behind Don Kwesi (disqualified) and Sensational Soul over 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m) on August 22. Prior to that, she won the Mark My Word Trophy over this distance on July 16 in 1:52.2, which gives her a say here. She will be running on late for second or third.

4. DON KWESI: (4 b c Sensational Slam – Lookatmenow) – Was the disqualified winner last time when beating Sensational Soul and Run Julie Run on August 22. He has been training well and with the distance not any issue, Don Kwesi should give the favourite most to do here. The only real danger to Barnaby.

5. MISS GROVE (CAN): (4 dk b/br f Amis Gizmo – Marilyns Last Love) — Is going to be left behind in this one.

6. NEO STAR: (7 b h Neolithic – Angel Dreams) — Has no winning chance.

— Ruddy Allen
