After laying vocal tracks for what became Where Were You?, Cam Clarke and producer Joshua Clarke agreed the song needed a second voice. Turbulence seemed perfect.

The dancehall veteran shares the mic with Cam Clarke on
Where Were You?, which was released on September 9. It hears two people giving thanks for finally finding that elusive partner.

“I voiced the song and my producer and I knew we wanted this as a collab. And, based on the tone and feel, we both felt that Turbulence would be able to represent,” said Cam Clarke.

“(Drummer/producer) Kirk Bennett made the connection possible. After my producer contacted Turbulence and sent him the song he fell in love with it. I went to his studio in Kingston and within a couple hours we were done,” she continued.

Where Were You? is the follow-up to Real Good Man, a song she recorded for the Kmetic label on the Magnificent rhythm.

The songs are from a busy studio period for Cam Clarke, who has been recording music since her late teens.

Much of her recent work has involved Joshua Clarke.

“My producer knows my style and my range and we work really well together, because we have that sync. One of the greatest things is that he’s a musician and he’s very passionate and serious about the music, so whatever comes out of the studio has to be really great,” she said.

Born in Clarendon, Cam Clarke was raised in Kingston and came of age musically in north coast hotels like Grand Palladium and Sandals Montego Bay.

She has also done backing vocals for artistes such as Ernie Smith, Joseph Scott, and Nana Moses.
