Man shot dead in Manchester

MANCHESTER, Jamaica — A man was shot dead by gunmen in Cedar Grove district near Mandeville in Manchester Wednesday night.

So far, he has been identified only by his alias, Duwi, a resident of Cedar Grove district. Residents say the man was recently hired as a chef and previously raised pigs.

Preliminary reports are that around 8:00 pm, residents heard loud explosions and alerted the police. The man was subsequently found slumped in his bed with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

Cedar Grove and its environs has been under curfew for months amid a threat of violence in communities along the L belt, police say.

The latest murder increases to 27 the number of homicides recorded in Manchester so far this year.
