Two cops charged in separate murder, assault cases — Indecom
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A lawman who claimed two men were trying to disarm him when he shot them, killing one and wounding the other, was brought before the court on Wednesday to answer to murder charges.
Corporal Randy Campbell appeared in court on Wednesday, having been charged in a 2025 incident investigated by the Independent Commission of Investigations (Indecom).
Campbell’s charges of murder and wounding with intent arise from an off-duty shooting incident resulting in the death of Kyron Cameron and injury of another man on April 29, 2025, in Granville, St James.
The officer alleged that the two men were attempting to disarm him, which resulted in him firing his weapon; however, Indecom’s investigation uncovered evidence that was inconsistent with the officer’s account.
Campbell appeared before the St James Parish Court, where he was charged after the Office of the Director of Prosecutions ruled that charges be laid in the matter. It has since been transferred to the St James Circuit Court.
Campbell was granted bail in the sum of $1 million with one to three sureties and reporting conditions.

The matter is scheduled for case management hearing on April 29, 2027.
Likewise, another member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), District Constable Lennox Lawood, appeared before the St Thomas Parish Court, by summons, on Wednesday, where he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Those charges are in relation to the assault of a man on December 22, 2025, along Seaforth Main Road in St Thomas.
Indecom said CCTV footage obtained during the investigation of the incident corroborates the complainant’s allegation of the officer’s use of force against him, which was reported as an unprovoked slap to the face.
The court recommended that an assessment be conducted and a report prepared to assist in determining whether the accused officer is fit to plead.
The matter returns to court on December 14, 2026.
