FIWI brings relief to hurricanehit Westmoreland school
…announces fashion fund-raiser
STUDENTS at Townhead Primary and Infant School in Westmoreland were recently treated to a day of entertainment, food and giveaways as the FIWI organisation hosted an event to assist the institution following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.
The outreach saw students receiving much-needed school supplies while participating in games and other activities, offering some relief as the school community continues its recovery.
For FIWI CEO and co-founder Orville Murray, the initiative was particularly meaningful, having grown up in the community.
“I am happy that we can give back to the community and to the place I once called home,” Murray said.
FIWI director and co-founder Jermaine Russell said the initiative was equally rewarding for the organisation.
“It is always a pleasure for me seeing the laughter on the children’s faces as we provide them with the needed school supplies,” he shared.
The school’s Administration welcomed the assistance and expressed gratitude.
The event, hosted by Ricardo Allen, was supported by several sponsors, including ALDO, Home Depot, Dual Lense Images, Villo Productions, and Stefanie’s Hands for Hope.
FIWI said it hopes to make the initiative an annual event, expanding its outreach to additional schools across western Jamaica.
Meanwhile, the organisation has announced plans for a major fund-raising fashion show on December 5, 2026, at Kaisers Sunset Hotel in Negril.
The announcement followed FIWI’s official media launch at the venue where founders Murray, Russell and Shane Purrier outlined the organisation’s vision and plans to support community development through charitable initiatives and entertainment.
The launch attracted several guests, including Miss Jamaica World Western Abigail Spencer and Miss Universe Jamaica Westmoreland Annalicia Russell, while models showcased their designs in a preview of the upcoming event.
Among them was Laverick Dawkins, who expressed excitement about making his runway debut.
“I am so excited, I cannot wait! This is my first time walking the runway; it’s a bit nerve-racking but I am excited at the same time,” he said.
FIWI hopes the December fund-raiser will help strengthen its community outreach efforts while providing a platform for emerging talent in western Jamaica.
