Teacher shot dead in school in Mexico
MEXICO CITY, Mexico (AFP)—A teacher was shot dead in a school in the Mexican state of Oaxaca on Tuesday, local prosecutors said.
The incident comes days after a separate attack on another school in northern Mexico, where a school employee died and three more people were wounded.
In Tuesday’s incident, panic erupted among students attending the middle school in the town of San Blas Atempa, local media reported.
Prosecutors said in a statement they have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators of the attack in which the teacher sustained wounds from the gunfire and later died in hospital.
Earlier this month, two 18-year-old brothers wielded knives during an attack on their former school in the northern city of Torreon, killing a member of staff.
Mexico is overrun by organised crime and drug-related violence, but attacks on schools are rare.
