Kia’s grand vision
THE recently concluded 2026 Kia EV Day event in Quito, Ecuador, hosted by Kia Central & South America, was a deep look at the brand’s plans for the future, highlighting that it will move further into electrification.
Pushing further ahead, Kia punctuated the occasion by unveiling the stunning Vision Meta Turismo.
“The Vision Meta Turismo represents a glimpse into Kia’s vision of future mobility. Beyond a car, we’re bringing together reimagined human-centric interior spaces and immersive digital interactivity in forms of mobility that are both inspiring and engaging — because in movement, the moments in-between matter,” Erde Tunga, head of exterior design, Kia Europe, said in his address to the audience on hand.
Driven to the stage to the fanfare of a live orchestra, dramatic smoke and light effects, the visually striking Vision Meta Turismo gave not just a glimpse into future Kias, but that of electric vehicles in general.
Inspired more by spacecraft than traditional motor cars, the Vision Meta Turismo has a very angular, but sleek, cab-forward design language to denote speed.
“The design of Vision Meta Turismo is where soft surfaces meet technical geometry,” he added.
There’s a significant amount of glass to present a sizeable canopy for passengers.
Exterior lighting is thin to complement the bodylines, and then there are the coachstyle doors.
“The strong colour break separates the sculptural body from the lower black technical insert that houses the functional elements, and further emphasises the floating aesthetic, while the thin lamp graphics highlight the vehicle’s futuristic and advanced character,” explained Tunga.
As theatrical as the exterior styling, termed Opposites United, is on the Vision Meta Turismo, the real innovation is on the inside.
“The driver and passenger areas are asymmetrical, having individually distinct aesthetics and user experiences, but merge to create a single expansive interactive environment,” he said.
The driver’s side of the Vision Meta Turismo is exactly that, designed to feel like that of an immersive racing cockpit.
It has three distinct digital experience modes that afford user customisation of the vehicle controls. Mode 1 is Speedster, which uses augmented reality to enhance the sensation of speed. Mode 2, Dreamer, moves the augmented reality from the head-up display into glasses that allow interaction across the virtual and real worlds. Mode 3, Gamer, is engaged when parked. It turns the car into a racing game hub, where it can connect to other users to race on virtual roads.
For passengers, things are a bit different. This seat is set further back to maximise space, as the focus on this side of the vehicle is comfort. It is designed to accent the natural light entering the vehicle, with calm colours and warm materials.
“The interior of Vision Meta Turismo is a deep-dive into exploring how journeying can be an unforgettable, engaging experience for both driver and passenger alike,” said Tunga.
He added that Vision Meta Turismo is the embodiment of Kia’s futuristic vision of an evolved approach to mobility that melds technology and an engaging, emotional experience.
