Built On Faith

A chance encounter blossomed into something far greater for Dawna-Kay Williams and Dwayne Hylton, who met at H&L Rapid True Value in May Pen, Clarendon, on November 25, 2022 during Dawna-Kay’s search for discounted supplies.

“I was being assisted by two team members whilst Dwayne, who was working at the store, was standing close by watching, and trying to get my attention. I ignored his overtures as I was not interested,” Dawna-Kay shared with Tuesday Style Vows (TSV).

“After reaching home I observed that some of my items were damaged, so I reached out to the store and was transferred to the warehouse supervisor who turned out to be Dwayne!”

Dwayne not only helped process her store returns, but became a go-to resource for her ongoing construction project. His ready advice and guidance blossomed into friendship.

“We became close friends and would encourage each other. We were both experiencing personal issues and would have regular Bible discussions to uplift our faith in Christ,” Dawna-Kay shared.

The depth of their conversations and joint prayers signalled to Dawna-Kay that he was a keeper! In Dwayne, she found not only the companion she had asked God for, but a reassuring anchor during a time of emotional struggle.

“Dwayne came into my life at a time when I was lonely, needed love, comfort, companionship, and a shoulder to lean on. God knew exactly what I needed, and He sent him. Through his kindness, patience, and unwavering support, he has shown me what it means to be truly loved,” Dawna-Kaye recalled.

For Dwayne, he felt a spark from their first interaction.

“The first time I saw her at the store, I felt a deep connection and said to myself that there is something special about this woman. I believed that she is the one God ordained for me,” Dwayne told TSV.

That conviction was sealed on September 27, 2025, when Dwayne proposed to Dawna-Kay, choosing the quiet intimacy of their home.

“We had spoken about getting married, however, we were still being cautious, especially me, because we wanted to be absolutely certain.

That said, we had saved, bought both our rings and was just waiting for the right time. But Dwayne had other plans!

“When I entered the bedroom he was on one knee, ring in hand and popped the question,” Dawna-Kay recalled. “In the moment there was no need for flashing lights or fanfare. It was entirely intimate… the sincere look in his eyes and the reassurance made it extra special.”

Here comes the bride…

Surrounded by loved ones, Dawna-Kay and Dwayne said ‘I do’ on July 25, 2026, in the Pavilion Gardens at Hope Botanical Gardens in St Andrew. Enhanced by tropical décor from Ten/10 Events and Rentals, the scene was set for a memorable occasion.

Radiating elegance in a princess gown from Exquisite Bridal Jamaica, Dawna-Kay was escorted up the aisle by her mum, Carmen Roberts-Wright, to Ryann Darling’s I Choose You. Waiting at the altar in a three-piece suit, Dwayne stood ready to join his bride as Pastor Owen Desgouttes guided the couple into their shared future.

Joyful toasts and well-wishes set the tone for the reception. Fresh off cutting their two-tiered wedding cake, Dwayne and Dawna-Kay kicked off the dancing to an AI generated song Deeper Than I Thought. The mood grew touchingly tender as the newly-weds were joined on the floor by Dwayne’s mum, Hanna Hylton and Dawna-Kay’s mum, Roberts-Wright. “Because both of our fathers are deceased, taking that time for a mother and son and mother and daughter dance was very important to us,” Dawna-Kay reflected. “It was a favourite moment for the guests, and our mothers were deeply touched.”

More than just a celebration, the day marked a joyful milestone in Dwayne and Dawna-Kay’s journey, reaffirming their commitment to building a faith-centred life together.

A honeymoon is planned for a later date.
