NCB reverses decision on stolen savings
Dear Claudienne,
Could you please help me to resolve an issue I have been having with NCB?
My first call was made to their Customer Service Department on Thursday, April 2, 2026 when I was advised that over $197,000 had been taken from the joint savings a/c I have with my husband, at the Knutsford Boulevard branch. I was told by the representative that funds were withdrawn from the account over the period April 20,2022–March 31, 2026.
I subsequently spoke to two supervisors but was unsuccessful in getting an update from either one, even after a number of follow-up calls. I was told by NCB that my husband’s ABM card was used for the fraudulent transactions and that his card has since been cancelled. As was pointed out to the NCB representative, this was a shock to both my husband and I as we had never heard of the merchants and were not even aware that the ABM card could be used overseas, where we have been residing for some time.
NCB told me on July 7 that $201k was withdrawn over the period August 2025 – April 2026 and that $141,329.29 was returned to the joint account. The bank told me that the full amount would not be returned as those transactions were outside of the 120-day dispute timeframe to request reimbursement from the merchants. I find this unacceptable as except for on/ 2 occasions, my husband did not receive notification that funds were being withdrawn.
Any assistance you can provide in getting the full amount restored to the joint account will be greatly appreciated.
