Wrong name on post-mortem report delays murder case
AN error on a post-mortem report has delayed a key step in the murder case against Chef Ezroy Allen, who is accused of killing his 38-year-old Catherine Hall neighbour, Kadene Beswick.
Allen appeared before Senior Parish Judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton in the St James Parish Court last Wednesday, where the clerk told the court that the report had been submitted but contained an error in the name of the dead woman.
The prosecution apologised to the defence and requested an additional two weeks to have the issue addressed.
Allen’s attorney, Chumu Paris, did not apply for bail as Allen had indicated that he had no one available to stand as his surety.
He was remanded in custody, and the matter scheduled for case management on November 5.
Allen is accused of fatally stabbing Beswick before choking her young son, who reportedly witnessed the attack.
The allegations are that on April 30 Beswick was asleep at home when noises inside the residence awakened her. She reportedly discovered an intruder, believed to be Allen, in her bedroom.
The woman was attacked and stabbed several times.
The noise awakened Beswick’s young son, who reportedly witnessed the attack on his mother.
The court heard that Beswick told the child to run, but Allen allegedly grabbed him and choked him until he lost consciousness.
Allen is alleged to have fled the scene before returning to his nearby home.
Residents who heard screams coming from the house during the night alerted the police.
Area One crime officer, Superintendent Jermaine Anglin said police were summoned to the residence about 12:30 the following morning.
Upon arrival, officers found Beswick lying on her back with multiple stab wounds.
Neighbours had already removed her son from the premises.
Detectives subsequently launched an investigation, conducting interviews and using forensic resources to gather evidence.
A trained dog from the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Canine Division played a key role in helping investigators locate evidence including a weapon believed to have been used in the attack, and clothing allegedly linked to the suspect.
Allen was later taken into custody and charged with murder.
