Dumplings stuffed with ganja leaves man in hot water
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Dumplings intended for an inmate at the Montego Bay police lock-up provided a surprise for the cops who reportedly found six parcels of ganja concealed inside the food, landing Dalton Fang before the St James Parish Court.
Fang appeared before Senior Parish Judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton last Wednesday charged with possession of ganja. He was represented by attorney-at-law Chumu Paris and entered a guilty plea.
The court heard that on September 17, about 1:10 pm, Fang visited the Montego Bay lock-up and told officers that he had brought foodstuff for a person in custody.
However, when officers searched a transparent plate containing dumplings and brown-stewed chicken they reportedly discovered vegetable matter resembling ganja, totalling one ounce, concealed inside some of the dumplings and wrapped in a plastic bag.
When cautioned, Fang reportedly told the cops that he did not know about the ganja.
In his mitigation plea Paris told the court that sometimes when people demonstrate acts of kindness, they are taken advantage of.
According to Paris, Fang’s actions were purely out of innocence.
Fairclough-Hylton subsequently fined Fang $5,000 or 10 days in jail.
