Anthony Patrick set for Molynes United return after Thomas sacking
KINGSTON, Jamaica —Veteran coach Anthony Patrick is set to make a return to Molynes United, replacing Jermaine Thomas, who was dismissed following the club’s disappointing start to the 2026-27 Jamaica Premier League (JPL) season.
Patrick, the former Racing United head coach, is expected to take over the reins at Molynes after Thomas became the first coaching casualty of the new Legends Jamaica Premier League season.
Sources close to the club indicate that Patrick is the man identified to replace Thomas, although an official announcement of his appointment is still awaited.
Thomas’ departure follows Molynes’ 2-1 defeat to defending champions Mount Pleasant on Monday, their sixth loss in eight matches this season.
The result left Molynes in 12th position in the 14-team standings, just above the relegation zone, with six points from two wins and six defeats.
Patrick’s possible appointment represents something of a homecoming, as he previously had a brief spell in charge of Molynes during the 2021 season, having replaced Calvert Fitzgerald.
However, it is his work at Racing United and St Catherine High that has established him as one of the more experienced coaches in the local game.
Patrick spent nearly nine years at the Gregory Park-based club, taking charge in 2017 when they were competing in the St Catherine Division Two competition.
Under his guidance, Racing climbed through the local football ranks and eventually secured promotion to the Jamaica Premier League, establishing themselves among the country’s top-flight clubs.
His biggest achievement came during the 2025-26 season when he guided Racing to sixth place in the JPL standings and their first-ever appearance in the play-offs.
Despite that historic achievement, Patrick and Racing parted ways in May after the club’s management decided against renewing his contract.
Patrick also has an impressive record in schoolboy football, particularly with St Catherine High, where he won two Walker Cup titles and guided the Spanish Town-based school to the 2024 Manning Cup final.
He led Bridgeport High School to two Manning Cup titles, in 2001 and 2006, and also guided the Portmore-based school to the Walker Cup title in 2001.
He has previously coached Waterhouse and Maverley Hughenden.
