Heavy rains force closure of Happy Grove High

ST THOMAS, Jamaica — Classes at Happy Grove High School, located near the St Thomas-Portland border, were suspended Tuesday morning due to heavy rainfall and reports of flooding along several roadways.

The closure follows rainfall last week that disrupted travel for students commuting from St Thomas, prompting concerns among parents, transport operators, students and staff.

Principal Monique Grant-Facey said the decision to close the school was made about 9:00 am following early reports of water accumulating on roads in St Thomas and sections of Portland.

There were also reports of water covering sections of the newly constructed Southern Coastal Highway, particularly in St Thomas, as well as roads in Kensington, Portland.
