Sports Girlie Tour launches Next Gen Series this week to empower high school students

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Sports Girlie Tour, founded by sports journalist and presenter Jeanae Robinson, is set to launch its Next Gen Series this week, continuing its mission to empower young Jamaicans through mentorship, education and personal development.

Now in its third season under the theme Elevate Everything, the initiative will begin its high school outreach at Haile Selassie High School, following the conclusion of its Campus Series at Mico University College.

The tour has already visited The University of the West Indies (UWI), Excelsior Community College and GC Foster College, engaging students in discussions centred on personal growth, career development and opportunities beyond academics and sport.

The initiative seeks to bridge the gap between sports, education and personal development by equipping young people with practical tools to navigate their futures, both on and off the field.

Robinson said the Next Gen Series holds special significance, having been the foundation on which the initiative was established.

“The Next Gen is where it all started, in the high schools of Jamaica, and I believe we have so much talent to foster. My wish is for the high school students to start thinking smart and strategic about their goals for life in sport, on and off the field, that they would embody our theme this season,” she said.

The Next Gen Series will focus on helping secondary school students develop confidence, discipline, leadership and decision-making skills, while encouraging them to explore opportunities beyond traditional sporting careers.

Reflecting on the tour’s progress, Robinson said she has been encouraged by the level of engagement from students.

“The Sports Girlie Tour has been a rewarding experience so far, particularly seeing young people engage in meaningful conversations about their personal and professional development. Beyond the activities, our goal has always been to create an environment where students feel empowered, inspired and equipped with practical tools for life beyond academics and sport,” she said.

As the tour prepares for its final Campus Series stop at Mico and the launch of the Next Gen Series at Haile Selassie, Robinson said students can expect meaningful interactions with professionals from various fields.

“As we prepare to visit Mico University College and Haile Selassie High School next week, students can look forward to insightful discussions, interactive experiences and opportunities to learn from individuals who are making an impact in their respective fields,” she said.

“We want every student to leave with a renewed sense of confidence, purpose and the understanding that their potential extends far beyond their current circumstances,” she added.
