In a landmark appointment for Balenciaga, Kering has named British-Jamaican designer Martine Rose as the House’s new Creative Director. Announced Friday, November 6, Rose makes history as the first woman to take the creative reins in Balenciaga’s 109-year history. She will be based in Paris and officially step into the role on November 16, 2026.
Her appointment adds another significant chapter to the growing influence of Jamaican women in global luxury fashion. Rose joins Grace Wales Bonner, appointed Creative Director of Men’s Ready-to-Wear at Hermès a year ago, and Diotima founder Rachel Scott, named creative head of Proenza Schouler last September, in a distinguished circle of Jamaican-heritage designers shaping the direction of international fashion.

From Rose
“It is a true privilege to be appointed Creative Director of Balenciaga, a House with an extraordinary heritage and a fearless creative spirit. Balenciaga has been shaped by remarkable creative talents before me. I am committed to honoring this legacy and look forward to creating the next chapter in this rich and beautiful story.”
