Two top-of-the-group clashes highlight d’Cup second round

SAV-LA-MAR, Westmoreland — Two top-of-thegroup clashes will highlight today’s matches in the second round of the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition, Mile Gully High against Kemps Hill in Group 3 and Manning’s School hosting Brown’s Town High in Group 6.

All four schools won their opening second round games played last week and will be going after back-to-back wins along with Frome Technical and Christiana High.

Eight games will be played in today’s second set of games in the second round with another 10 set to be played on Wednesday.

Manning’s School are coming off a big upset win over Rusea’s High in Lucea and face Brown’s Town High, who beat William Knibb Memorial 4-1 and lead the group on goal-difference.

Brown’s Town topped their first-round group, winning five games and drawing the other, while scoring 48 goals, 20 coming in one game against newcomers Walkerswood Academy.

Last week they wore down William Knibb Memorial, scoring three times in the second half but Manning’s School are expected to be a much tougher opponent.

Kemps Hill and Mile Gully were 2-0 winners last week, over Knox College and St Mary High respectively and today’s game promises to be close and exciting.

Frome Technical, who beat Irwin High 1-0 at home will hope to carry over their form against Holmwood Technical, who were losers to Munro College last Wednesday.

With games against Munro College and St Elizabeth Technical to come, Frome will hope to make the best of home advantage against one of the best third-place qualifiers.

Christiana High made the best of their opportunities after edging 10-man Lennon High 1-0 and face an Edwin Allen High team that are coming off a loss to Manchester High.

Also today, Irwin High will hope to rebound after losing their opening game last week when they travel to face Maggotty High; Old Harbour High and Ferncourt High are still seeking their first wins and will meet at Linval Dixon Oval, while Lennon High will have the edged against Porus High.
