Jamaican rural Businesswomen network gets US$42,000 boost
The Network of Rural Women Producers in Jamaica on Tuesday got a US$42,000 grant to strengthen the management, computer and Internet skills of its members from the United States government through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The Network is the vehicle through which the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) provides support to rural women, who own and operate agriculture-related micro-enterprises islandwide. The programme was officially launched on Tuesday at Kings House.
The management skills of the women will be strengthened through a comprehensive package of business and computer training including gender-specific topics that will improve the competitiveness and sustainability of their enterprises.
The women will also get training in the use of the Internet and will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to manage their own websites for e-commerce activities.
The activity is part of the US Embassy’s economic growth strategy in Jamaica to improve the business environment for developing the small, medium and micro enterprise sectors.
