Star Jones celebrates in Jamaica
Star Jones will show the world what it’s like to be fabulous at 40 as she celebrates her milestone birthday with 40 of her dearest girlfriends and relations in her “second home” of Montego Bay, Jamaica at the exclusive Half Moon, Golf, Tennis & Tennis Beach Club, March 21-24.
From her mother, Shirley Byard, to her study partner from Law School, to an array of Hollywood elite and New York philanthropists, Star has gathered together all the women that have influenced her life for an extravagant weekend of sun, fun, laughter and friendship.
Star’s 40th birthday celebration also provides the backdrop for the announcement of the not-for-profit “Starlet Fund”. In recognition of the important influence strong women have had in her life, Star’s new foundation will provide encouragement and financial support to individuals and small, community- based organisations that are dedicated to the emotional, social and spiritual advancement and welfare of women and girls.
The inaugural award will be made in Jamaica on March 24 — Star’s birthday — to The Crisis Centre of Woman, Inc a Jamaica-based organisation that provides services to women who are the victims of domestic violence.
Every extraordinary detail of the four-day celebration was planned by Star herself with assistance from the Jamaica Tourist Board in partnership with Air Jamaica. The weekend is punctuated by fun and surprises, great food, and lots of pampering, including rafting on the Great River at Lethe; a special spa day for the ladies at Star’s villa — with a themed Tanqueray martini created for the occasion; a beach barbecue and a “Meet the People” sunset cruise onboard The M/V Zein, the fabulous yacht now owned by the SuperClubs chain, which once belonged to Aristotle Onassis and on which Prince Rainier and Grace Kelly honeymooned.
Star’s favourite bubbly, Dom Perignon, will be the exclusive spirit for the All White Saturday Night Birthday Bash at the spectacular private villa, Silent Waters. The hillside retreat — and all the ladies — will be elegantly attired entirely in white for the evening.
Following dinner, which will be prepared by legendary Jamaican chef, Norma Shirley, and Silent Water’s Chef Harry, a traditional “roast’ will be staged by Star’s girlfriends and family.
Star’s actual birthday, Sunday, March 24, will begin with a spiritual seaside gospel service followed by a birthday toast and gourmet brunch. After the brunch the weekend will come to an end as Star jets back to New York just-in-time to co-host “The View’s” special post-Academy Awards show.
