Beverly Johnson to
Beverly Johnson, model, actress, author, businesswoman, is among the celebrity line-up for the fourth staging of the annual global Jamerican Film and Music Festival. Johnson brings her fundraising skills to the shores of Jamaica where she will chair a celebrity golf tournament, the aim of which is to raise funds to support a children’s hospital trust.
Johnson’s list of modelling accomplishments include over 500 magazine covers. She was the first African-American woman to grace Vogue magazine’s cover, and has many editorial pages and advertising campaigns for America’s largest firms to her credit.
Most recently, she was appointed by former American President Bill Clinton, to be the Ambassador of Goodwill to the Fashion Industry to work on a campaign to eliminate illegal “sweat shops.” Additionally, Johnson volunteers her time for such important charities as the American Foundation for AIDS Research, the United Negro College Fund, and Prevent Blindness America (for which she serves as the National Spokesperson for Glaucoma Awareness).
The festival will feature a fine calibre of celebrity attendances and fun activities. Other exciting events are planned such as, a celebrity golf tournament entitled ‘Links Inna Yard’, a movie segment termed ‘Midnight Movie Madness’ and a informative panel discussion called ‘Pitch Me’. There will also be a high tech cyber lounge, an exciting festival of fashion featuring the best of American and Jamaican fashion wear. Some high profile soap stars from North America will host this fashion festival.
The event entitled “Cinema Inna Yard’ is the innovation of Jamaican-born international actress, producer, writer and film director, Sheryl Lee Ralph.
The festival which has seen past attendances from, Black Entertainment Television (BET), Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, CNN, MTV, Ebony, Essence, BBC, CTV, and the Travel Channel will be held in at the Ritz-Carlton Rose Hall in Montego Bay in November.
