MAC Presents Spring/Summer Trends
Director of Make-up Artistry at MAC Cosmetics Romero Jennings is the man with the plan for 2014. The Rock-born beauty guru presented the line’s projections for the year’s Spring/Summer make-up trends to a full house of beauty and lifestyle enthusiasts at the Spanish Court Hotel on Thursday . Inspired by the runways of Paris and Milan Fashion Weeks, Jennings used the fierce faces of Miss Jamaica Universe 2013 Kerrie Baylis and Miss Jamaica World 2013 Gina Hargitay as his canvasses for the demonstration of the ‘Day-Glow’ and ‘CC-Thru Colour’ trends. Your AW Beauty glam squad shows you how to get these fresh new looks.
Day-Glow
“Whatever you do this season, the complexion has to be summery, gorgeous and glowing.” —Tom Pecheux, make-up artist
A sportive nod to the elements, the ‘Day-Glow’ trend is all about getting the maximum out of the minimal for a super-natural look, neutralising the face with translucent and bronze shades for that sun-kissed effect, and using highlights and emollient textures to emulate the way that light falls on fresh, young skin.
To Get the Look:
– First, apply a primer that will hydrate the skin, like MAC Prep+Prime Skin Refined Zone, paying special attention to the T-Zone and other areas prone to sheen.
– Apply MAC Prep+Prime Moisture Infusion to ensure the skin remains hydrated throughout the day.
– Using shades from MAC’s Studio Finish Concealer Palette apply sparingly to even the skin’s natural tone.
– Brighten the inner and outer corners of the eyes with a light eye shadow to create a sun-kissed glow, using MAC Careblend Powder to diffuse the glow in areas where it is not desired.
– Add a touch of grey tone from MAC’s Groundwork Pro Longwear Paint Pot to the eyelids to highlight their natural rosy look.
– Use the technique of “intelligent bronzing” to contour the face from the hairline to under the cheekbones, tapping the temple to accentuate the shade.
– Lengthen both the upper and lower lashes with MAC’s Extended Play Gigablack Lash mascara.
– Using a touch of high-pigment shadow, highlight the bow of the mouth to create a ‘pouty’ effect.
– Finish the look with a light blend of MAC’s Mineralize Blush in Petal Power and Mineralize Skinfinish in Stereo Rose.
CC-Thru Colour
“All the shades I’m using this season have a fleshy tone to them; it’s about playing with the tones that exist naturally on and in the skin.” — Lucia Pieroni, make-up artist
It’s official: Lavender is in, and the hazy, Instagram filter feel of the ‘CC-Thru Colour’ trend aims to let the world know it. This season, make-up artists across the globe will be blending soft, pastel-like shades like purple and grey with more vibrant tints like orange and pink, playing up the natural textures of the skin for a dramatic, yet realistic look both on and off the runway.
To Get the Look:
– Lightly blend MAC Fluidline Phlox Garden eye shadow with a slightly more metallic shade and apply to the eyelids.
– Add golden highlights to the top of the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose and the bow of the mouth using MAC Goldmine eye shadow.
– Using the vibrant MAC More to Love Pro Longwear Lip Pencil, line and fill the entire lip.
– For extra dimension, add a touch of MAC’s Snapdragon lipstick from the spanking new Fantasy of Flowers collection.
– Using the new MAC Dreaming Dahlia lipstick as blush, lightly apply to the cheeks to achieve a warmer look that complements that of the lips for a fiery finish.
