I’ve been a bad, bad… dieter
IT’S a secret no one knows. You are a good dieter, you stick to your regimen, but you are also a secret food hoarder. You hide food in your handbag, under your bed and in your clothes drawers, and when no one is looking, you eat it all in the dark.
It’s a problem that many of us can relate to, no matter what stage we are in the weight loss journey.
Here, some people share their naughty diet habits in 2014.
Dr Alfred Dawes, MD:
I ate three patties in one day, because I missed eating patties. I had a big cup of soda with them too. I felt really sick right after. Looking back I feel guilty too since in my practice as a laparoscopic and obesity surgeon, I encourage people to eat healthy and stick to their diets.
Kerry-Ann Johnson, cashier, just started exercising:
I’ve been naughty all year round with my dieting. I started out OK but and used to pinch bits of chocolates right after the diet meals.
Renee Dwyer, student, plays netball:
I caught myself when the year was about to end, but I’ve still been a naughty dieter. I was on a fruit diet, low calories and doing well, but I probably started too quickly as the few pounds I lost I gained them back in no time. In the night when I felt for food, the unhealthy ones I was comfortable with, I would drive to the nearest fast food joint and go berserk with ordering.
John Ogilvie, driver, occasional exerciser:
I would be in the gym all day pumping iron, pigging out on vegetables, fruits and vegetable juices, but every night I stopped at KFC before heading home, ate the food in my car and disposed of the box and receipt before I got home where I know my wife would chastise me.
Ricardo Johnson, tattoo artist, fitness freak:
I would jog each evening but stop at Burger King for breakfast and lunch.
Janice Davis, dressmaker, casual exerciser:
I stuck to my diet, but I would eat sweets, sandwich biscuits, peanuts and even soda at times. Afterwards I’d feel bloated but I’d just relax and then work out. I had what I’d term as a reversal syndrome — simply put, I was a bad dieter last year.
