Vows – United in Love

It’s like my knees are all weak and them butterflies

They were dancing taking all of my air

From that moment on it was very clear.

That’s when I knew I fell in love;

That’s when I knew you were the one;

That’s when I knew you stole my heart away from me;

That’s when I knew that I was sunk,

That was the moment that I knew I was in love.

— That’s When I Knew by Alicia Keys

After a two-year courtship, English-born driving school instructor Taofeeq Sadiku married his Jamaican-born fiancée, e2v project planner Tamara Plummer, at a Caribbean meets African ceremony on February 26 at Rose Hall Resorts Cinnamon Hill Great House. Vows presents Mr and Mrs Toafeeq Sadiku.

How They Met…

Tamara shares, “When I was 16, I met Taofeeq — who was three years my senior — for the first time. We exchanged numbers and would check up on each other from time to time. Several years later we stumbled upon each other a second time and exchanged numbers once again. The funny thing is, we didn’t even recognise each other. After two dates we realised that we’d met before and decided that it was fate pushing us together.

“Taofeeq proposed on Christmas Day in front of all of our family. He put the engagement ring on a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes that he bought as my Christmas gift. I was pleasantly surprised to see the Louboutin box because he told me he had bought me trainers. I was even more excited to see the ring and to hear the words “Will You Marry Me?”

The Ceremony…

Taofeeq journeyed up the aisle in a two-piece custom khaki Fred Kruger suit with blue and white brocade vest, a matching bow tie and white rose boutonnière, while the groomsmen — in similar fashion — wore suits that complemented the bridesmaids’ blue traditional garb.

Flower girls Chanaé Andrews and Ava-Leigh Thomas skipped to the altar hand-in-hand before heads turned to witness the bride’s entrance.

Alicia Keys’ That’s When I Knew — sung by bridesmaid Nesah Gonzales — introduced Tamara in a Zac Posen original with a fitted mermaid bodice with lace appliquéd details.

After a heart-warming exchange of vows, Reverend Garnett Neithly announced the newly-weds and the two recessed through a bridal party tunnel to Afrobeats’ Fine Girls.

Loved ones cheered as Taofeeq and Tamara entered the reception area celebratiing two people — and cultures — coming together as one.

The ivory white reception was decorated by the Helen G Events team and sumptuous local fare was provided by Eskay Catering.

With emcee Dwight Richards directing the formalities, the newly-weds cut into their three-tiered Cakes by Noida coconut, vanilla and red velvet cake draped in white fondant with drops of bling at the first and third tiers.

The couple marched onto the dance floor in tune with Candy by Cameo for their first dance as husband and wife, after which emcee Richards opened the floor for the shuffle.

Part one of the two-part honeymoon concluded when the couple wrapped their Jamaican trip. The newly-weds plan a second honeymoon for Dubai in the fall.
