Habits that annoy your gym instructor
GYM instructors are usually nice and patient with their clients; however, there are times when they can become impatient because of habits you have that annoy them.
These include:
1. The talkers
“When gym members constantly interrupt other people during their training time to chat, it will upset a gym trainer and other members might become offended,” said Rohan Gordon, personal trainer at Eden Gardens Wellness Resort and Spa. He added that most workout sessions have a level of focus and if there is constant talking most things will not be done correctly.
2. Lack of respect for time
According to Gisel Harrow, personal trainer at Gymkhana, if you’re not able to make it for a session or you’re going to be late, call and inform the trainer. She said time is very precious to everyone and wasting someone else’s time doesn’t make a good impression.
3. Cellphones users
Gordon said using cellphones during workouts is very risky. “You lose focus and you can fall from a machine or do something wrong and hurt yourself. Those things drive us as trainers crazy,” he said.
4. Constant excuses
Gordon said making constant excuses when an instructor is trying to assist you can be nerve-wracking. Instead he suggested attempting the moves and challenging yourself, but at the same time know what your limits are.
5. Tuning them out
Jair Lyons, registered physical therapist, level one crossfit trainer and founder of Trueform Fitness, said when clients have in their earphones and they can’t hear the instructors it is annoying. “Many times they’re doing something wrong and they can’t hear you when you’re correcting them because they have in the earphones and it’s on blast,” he complained.
5. Comparing yourself to other people in the gym
According to Lyons, not all body types are the same and not everyone is on the same mission, so comparing yourself to people does you no good. “Sometimes they [clients] say they don’t want to be as tough as her, but she’s on a different mission. They will also say he or she is too skinny, but they’re not. They need to understand that everyone’s goal is different, so when they look at someone and say they want to be like that or they don’t want to be like that, it’s annoying, because they don’t know what they’re about.
