How to get your lazy man off the couch
The Oxford dictionary defines lazy as unwilling to work or use energy. Many women find themselves with men fitting this definition — men who don’t feel the need to do anything around the house or yard. This is the type of man who will sit two steps away from the kitchen, yelling to his woman who is outside taking his clothes of the line that the food on the stove is burning.
It takes a special woman to handle this type of man; a special woman who has to take part ownership in aiding in her man mastering the fine art of laziness.
Some might say why complain about his laziness now, when this has been going on for so long, but the reality is that every woman needs some form of help around the house. Not everyone can hire a helper.
But how do you get your man from lazy bum to helpful? The first step is being real with your expectations as chances are he might never change. He is a creature of habit. He does what he does because he has been doing it for years. So change isn’t going happen overnight.
But here are a few steps to keep in mind
1. Don’t tell him to do more than one thing at a time. Don’t, under any circumstance, give him a list. Men are genetically wired to reject all lists. If you do this you are doomed to fail.
2. Don’t harass him about things to be done. The more you nag, the less he will do. Just ask once and leave it at that.
3. Let him decide the timeline in which to get the job done. This may sound counterproductive as he may never get time between the sports channel and sleeping, but allowing him to decide the time to do a task will give him a sense of control. Besides, when he completes the job, his pride will surely let you know that he did it before the time elapsed.
4. Notice what he does, not what he doesn’t do. If he tried but didn’t do it right by your standards, remember to still be realistic in your expectations of him.
5. Let your man understand the importance of him helping you around the house. He might not really get how exhausting it may be for you, worse if he see you putting on your super woman cape and doing everything on your own. You might be saying “I’m tired” and he sees, “I love a clean house so I’m going to keep cleaning”. Speak to him on a level that will open his eyes to how much you need his cooperation.
If after doing all of this he still isn’t helping around the house you might want to consider having your mother move in. That should get him off the couch, out of the house, and into the yard with a chore to keep himself occupied and out of her path.
