Focus on healthy eating
WORLD Diabetes Day was celebrated on November 14 with a focus on healthy eating as a key factor in the fight against diabetes and a cornerstone of health and sustainable development.
Organised and led by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), World Diabetes Day was created in 1991 by IDF and the World Health Organization in response to growing concerns about the escalating health threat posed by diabetes.
According to the IDF website, two new World Diabetes Day visuals, the first of four infographics and the diabetes “living” guide, have been released as part of a year-long campaign to reflect the realities of people living with the disease.
As part of the campaign, healthy eating is emphasised as it can help prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes and it is an important part of the effective management of all types of diabetes to help avoid complications.
So in recognition of World Diabetes Day and in the fight to prevent developing this lifestyle disease, remember to practise healthy eating. Consult with your doctor or nutritionist for a start.
