Husband-and- wife duo Ashenafi Abayomi and Sentwali Amen-Ra Abayomi have found a trendy way of paying homage to the African culture with the début of their jewellery line, labelled Siwatu Jewelery.
“The business was created from a need Ashenafi and I had for self-reliance. We were both in our third year of college and realised we didn’t want to work for anyone,”shared Sentwali. From a young age, the two were acquainted with the art of jewellery making, but had only thought of it as a hobby. After a year of exploring several business ventures and sleepless nights spent researching via You tube videos and jewellery books, the two decided that the best pick was, in fact, jewellery making.
The collection features a wide variety of necklaces, earrings, anklets, pendants and bracelets which are handmade with love to celebrate African culture and creativity. Each piece is affordable and takes between three to seven days to make, depending on the design. Prices begin as low as US$16, and range based on the customisation of your order.
