Vows: A Love That Blossoms

Seven years of courtship culminated at the altar on November 12, 2016 when medical doctor Kristen Robinson and chef/caterer Kamar Barrett were joined in holy matrimony at the University of the West Indies Chapel, Mona. VOWS shares their story.

The initial encounter, as told by Kristen…

“I met Kamar 14 years ago while Christmas shopping at Tropical Plaza. We went out once and then lost contact. While I was at medical school seven years later, a friend of mine reintroduced us. Kamar asked me out and I said yes. We have been together ever since.”

The proposal…

Kamar proposed to Kristen on her 28th birthday at the award-winning Regency Restaurant at the Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel where he had planned a surprise dinner with all of their close friends and family. After the birthday speeches, Kamar rose to his feet, toasted Kristen, and then asked for her hand in marriage.

The ceremony…

Friends and family filled the pews of the University of the West Indies Chapel to witness the nuptials. The chapel was elegantly decorated by Petals & Promises with flowers in shades of plum, gold/bronze and white. The bridesmaids made their way up the aisle to the strains of John Legend’s All of Me, dressed in plum lace strapless mermaid gowns from David’s Bridal. They were escorted by the groomsmen wearing grey suits with plum vests and ties from Beautiful Bride and Mr Tux. All the guests stood looking on with misty eyes as Stafford Robinson walked his daughter up the aisle to A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. Kristen was stunning in a sleeveless, boat-neck mermaid ivory gown with floral embroidery and beading, with sheer fabric from bust to neck with interspersed crystals, illusion sheer open back and medium-length train from Bijou Bridal & Special Occasion. Eagerly awaiting his bride at the altar stood a dapper Kamar, dressed in a grey suit and grey vest, purple dress shirt complemented by a plum tie. The ceremony was officiated by Reverend Astor Carlyle. After the exchange of vows, as the couple signed their documents in the vestry, the church resonated with the voice of Allison Roberts who performed Adele’s Let You Feel My Love, and Jimmy Needham’s Unfailing Love. She was accompanied by Aldaine Goodall on the piano. To symbolise the joining of their families, the couple performed the traditional blending of the sands ceremony.

The reception…

The reception took place at Pavilion Gardens at the Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel, where the plum, gold/bronze and white décor was repeated. Here the guests were greeted and entertained throughout the cocktail hour. The newly-weds and their bridal partymade their entrance, and the dance floor was soon cleared for the newly-weds’ first dance as husband and wife to Nathan Sykes’

Over and Over Again. Post-formalities, guests enjoyed a sumptuous four-course meal and witnessed the cutting of the five-tiered wedding fruitcake created by the bridegroom and his mother Denise Cargill. The couple and their guests then partied to tunes spun by DJ Bambino until the wee hours of the morning.

The Honeymoon…

The lovebirds honeymooned at Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall, Montego Bay.
