Remember: May is Child Month
MAY is Child Month and the theme for 2017 is ‘Take Action! Break the Chain of Abuse Against Children”.
The highlight of the month is National Children’s Day, which has been observed on the third Friday in May since 2012.In observance of this day, May 19, every adult Jamaican is being asked to wear something yellow and celebrate the children, similar to how mothers and fathers are celebrated on their respective days.Activities for Child Month began with a National Church Service at Fellowship Tabernacle in St Andrew yesterday, May 7. On Friday, May 19 — National Children’s Day, members of the National Child Month Committee along with other stakeholders will gather at 6:00 am in the Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre and at St William Grant Park downtown Kingston, to bring cheer and hand out tokens to children on their way to school.A National Day of Prayer will be observed on Wednesday, May 31 at Bethel Baptist Church in Half-Way-Tree from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.Sponsors for Child Month 2017 include GraceKennedy Limited, National Baking Company Foundation, General Accident Insurance Company Limited, Jamaica Producers, and Kingston Bookshop Limited.
