Diet adjustments for pregnancy
Dear Donovan,
I am having difficulty conceiving. The doctor prescribed a drug that I’ve been taking for three months to increase my egg production, but there’s still no sign of a baby. My husband tested his sperm count and I accompanied him to the doctor. He is fine. Are there any natural remedies or diet adjustments that you think might help me? I am also not eating properly.
Getting pregnant would seem like the most natural thing for a woman, but sadly, some couples have difficulty conceiving. However, not conceiving in the first year does not mean there’s no hope of getting pregnant. Many women will eventually conceive.
You did not tell me your age or anything about your diet or weight that would guide me in assisting you more. It is a known fact that you are more likely to get pregnant if you and your husband are in good health. Being overweight or underweight can affect your chances. Studies have shown that too little fat or too much fat can affect pregnancy.
A body mass index (BMI) between 20-25 is good. A BMI greater than 30 and less than 19 can cause fertility issues. It is therefore important to make sure that you and your husband are in the proper weight range. If you are overweight, it is best to lose some weight. Also, getting pregnant when you are overweight can definitely put you and your baby at risk.
Having a diet rich in protein, fruits, vegetables, vegetable juices, whole grains and healthy fats will help. It is very important to limit your consumption of sugar. Sugar can make the body acidic and reduce the chance of conceiving. In addition, you should consume foods rich in folic acid. Since you mentioned that you are not eating properly, that will have to change.
I would also suggest that you track your menstrual cycle to find out your most fertile periods. I know it is difficult at this time, but you should also try and reduce stress. Lowering your stress levels can increase your chances of becoming pregnant.
Exercising can help you with your weight as well as reduce your stress levels. It is also important for you and your husband to enjoy each other’s company. Try and find some relaxing activities that you can both participate in. Time will take care of the situation.
Good luck!
