Forced into marriage
Many women are schooled to believe that marriage offers love, stability and most importantly, security, and as such it’s an ideal to aspire to. But is this really true?
Below, women tell how they were ‘forced’ into an institution that offered none of the above, by parents, friends or society.
Ashleigh:
Women are led to believe that marriage is a pot of gold when it really is not. I was forced into marriage at age 25, and that I lived to regret. It was hell. And I am not saying don’t get married, I am saying do not let anyone force you.
KD:
I was forced to get married and I went through the ceremony, and then found my husband with a man in our bed when he thought I was at work. Funny thing, after I revealed this to my family, they encouraged me to stay with him because of social status. It is sickening.
Kennisha:
Everyone pressured me to get married once I announced I was pregnant. Unbelievable!
EC:
Yes, women are being rushed and forced. After you pass 30 years old, you are expected to be married and get pregnant and if that doesn’t happen, something is wrong with you and your life.
