Stop talking to people about your relationship!
It happens all the time in intimate relationships – feuds, misunderstandings and arguments. This is normal because a relationship involves two different personalities coming together. As such, it is expected that couples will experience disagreements.
What can cause issues is when in the midst of these problems, one or both partners go outside the unit and confide in friends or family members, the shortcomings of their partner.
What is so wrong about this?
1. You can forgive and forget but others won’t
Couples argue but they also make up and when you drag others into your relationship drama, they may not forgive and move on as you did. That can affect how they relate to you and your partner afterwards.
2. It shows disrespect
It is a total slap in the face when things go south, and you run up north to gossip to your family and friends about all the negatives. This is not to say that you should keep your feelings bottled in, but you have a responsibility to yourself and your relationship to handle the challenges that will arise. If you are not being abused, learn to handle your relationship issues with maturity, respect and ultimately love. If you must let it out, seek a relationship coach or counsellor.
3. You partner will not trust you
If you cannot keep intimate disagreements under wraps, why should your partner share their secrets with you? Learn to handle problems with the person you have the problems with. Blabbing to your family and friends will not make them better.
