Imprisoned by love
For many people, free will becomes a foreign concept once they get fully immersed in their relationships, as partners who once seemed normal morph into possessive beings.
Being imprisoned in a relationship is a heavy burden that many women and even men bear – feeling trapped and not being able to live according to how they desire.
Here are some stories:
CW:
My ex-husband made me quit my job as a means to control my life. He hated the fact that I was a general manager at an esteemed organization, so he tried to control me with a baby. I agreed to us having the baby, but after I did, he told me to quit the job and stay home with the baby and he would ensure we were well taken care of. He said that after a few years I could go back to work, but that didn’t happen. Then I realized he was just an abuser who wanted me locked in the house. He even installed cameras in the house. It was real messy.
Jordayne:
My man actually kept malice with me for a month because I went out with my friends. He is used to me staying home and I decided to go hang out one night. That was the end of our communication for a month. Unbelievable, but it is real. Only men who are controlling do this craziness.
Ruth Ann:
My ex used to hide my phone and even my car keys from me to prevent me from communicating and hanging out with friends and family. No one should live in that craziness but I did because I depended on him. The moment I got a job, I left that situation.
Marg:
My ex held on to my debit and credit cards. I was really afraid to confront him but I had to because I was tired of the arguments and public fights.
TG:
I couldn’t work or visit my family unless he permitted me to, and he had to drop me off and pick me back up. It felt like slavery.
