Detaching from devices and restoring communication in your relationship
Communication is integral to sustaining a healthy relationship. It is therefore imperative for couples to invest heavily in communicating and not just to talk, but to listen to each other.
Here are some tips on keeping the communication alive by detaching from the devices that dim the communication between you and our partner.
1. Avoid looking at our phone when you get up in the morning
Try praying, reading something inspirational, or getting intimate with your partner. What you are doing when you give less attention to your cellphone, is giving more of yourself to the real world around you.
2. Make your bedroom a consecrated, no devices allowed place
Your bedroom is for rest and for sex. Avoid inviting other things in. Once you ensure that your bedroom remains intimate once you and your partner are in it, that fire will keep burning and you are also investing time to communicate more with your partner
3. Go on airplane mode
The WhatsApp messages can be read in the morning on your way to work or on your break. It is disrespectful to have your partner in bed beside you and you choose to communicate with others on WhatsApp or other social media platforms, rather than pay attention to your man or woman who is actually right beside you.
4. Keep your phone in your purse or bag when you’re with your mate
Learn to pay attention to those you are around. Being on your phone is a signal to the person you are supposed to be spending time with that he or she is not significant enough to give time to.
5. Go on a social media diet once a week
Do this for you and also for the intimacy of your relationship. It also makes you less attached to your device and more in tune with the world around you.
