Gore Foundation helps fuel basic schools
THE Gore Family Foundation’s ongoing mission to implement wholesome nutritional programmes at the basic school level continues. The most recent efforts focused on providing individualised training sessions for the cooks at all 10 of Gore’s adopted basic schools.
The training sessions were conducted by Latoya Panton, the creator of Young Chefs, together with Gore Villas’ executive chef George Matthews. Each cook was coached all the way through to creating their standard menus and also reviewed both hygiene and equipment maintenance procedures. Help was also provided by the Foundation’s ‘IT playmates’ who assisted with the completion of the various Early Childhood Commission forms and reports that are required in each school.
To the delight of the schools’ cooks, on completion of each session all of the IT Playmates (at their respective schools) handed over much-needed equipment and utensils for their school’s kitchens.
Major kitchen upgrades and appliance replacements are planned during the Easter holidays to sustain and ensure the continued success of the nutrition programmes.
