VOWS: Happy In Love
Saturday, February 3, 2018 will be forever etched in the memories of Kelli-Ann Walker, attorney-at-law, and Fabian Pinkney, manager, Pinkney Customs Brokers. It was on this day that the two were joined in holy matrimony at the University of the West Indies Chapel, Mona. Vows recalls their course of love.
The first encounter
Both on personal fitness journeys, Kelli-Ann and Fabian met at the gym in 2013, during an aerobics step class. Little did they know that they would eventually step into each other’s lives.
It would take patience however, in fact a year of casual greetings and smiles, before numbers were exchanged. A year later they were dating, learning about each other’s families and slowly coming to the realisation that their contrasting personalities proved to be the perfect fit for a lasting union.
The proposal, as told by Kelli-Ann
Fabian proposed to me on New Year’s Day 2017. He gave me a beautiful card (which he designed), a simple but sweet declaration of love. It had pictures which highlighted some of our most memorable moments together. Fabian then recited from the card. He appeared nervous but forthright as he asked me to marry him. Fighting back tears I looked into his eyes and saw that he too, was shedding tears of joy. My response was an emphatic ‘Yes!’
The ceremony
…was an intimate gathering inside the Mona Chapel. Petals and Promises used shades of blush pink and navy blue to decorate the space.
Awaiting the bride’s arrival was the bridegroom, suave in a Spokes Apparel navy blue three-piece suit. His groomsmen wore navy blue two-piece suits with blush ties and superhero cufflinks.
The bridesmaids were picture-perfect as they made their entrance in blush one-shoulder dresses and the maid of honour in a navy blue one-shoulder dress from Azazie.com. Each wore Pandora bracelets with meaningful charms which were gifts from the bride.
There was hardly a dry eye as the groom announced his bride’s arrival by singing Major’s Why I Love You. Kelli-Ann, absolutely gorgeous in a Zac Posen ivory satin gown from David’s Bridal, made her way up the aisle to her singing husband-to-be. Other musical highlights included Mario Evan’s stirring rendition of Brian McKnight’s Everything. Pharrell Williams’s Happy echoed through the church as the newly-weds exited the chapel. The ceremony was officiated by Reverend Peter Garth.
The reception
Cocktails took place at the Top of the World of the Jamaica Pegasus, where guests enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres and live music from Seretse Small and his band. Lighting by Supreme Systems added a magical touch to the open-air venue elegantly decorated by the team from Petals and Promises who continued the chapel colour scheme of blush pink and navy blue.
Dinner followed a few levels down at The Talk of The Town where tables displayed photos of the bride and groom at various stages of their relationship. The wedding party entered to Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars followed by the newly-weds who danced their way into the ballroom to lusty applause to Mars’s Finesse. This was followed by the couple’s first dance as husband and wife to Jesse Powell’s You. Post-formalities, guests enjoyed a three-course meal and witnessed the cutting of the three-tiered red velvet cake by Jodicakes.
The honeymoon
The newly-weds honeymooned at Sandals Royal Caribbean, Montego Bay, St James.
