7 ways to exercise without realising it

BY FALON FOLKES

MANY people love the idea of exercise and the list of health benefits that come with it. But some people continue to make excuses to not start exercising. This happens because they automatically assume that exercise must involve the gym, squatting, weights, leg raises and other exercise moves.

But there is no rule that says that this is how your workout should be. Exercise involves being active and there are many activities that give room for this.

Below fitness trainer with Jamaica Energy Partners, Rohan Gordon, recommends 10 things you can do to keep fit without even realising that you are exercising.

1. Put more energy into cleaning

The mop and the broom can be props, so get down and scrub those spots away, putting your back into it.

2. Dancing

Dance moves work your whole body, and because of the exertion you’ll start sweating in a few minutes. Additionally, it is enjoyable and you will be willing to dance for up to an hour.

3. Walk more

Instead of driving for every little thing, walk instead. Walking works out the whole body, just make sure to swing your arms while you’re at it.

4. Use the stairs more

If you’re just going up a floor or two, using the elevator is a waste of precious exercise time. Take the stairs instead — and even sprint up instead of just walking.

5. Do chores yourself

Don’t pay someone to wash your car, cut the grass or do your gardening. Do these tasks yourself, and work up a sweat.

6. Play sports

Take up a hobby that involves some serious action. Join a netball or tennis team, and watch those thighs tone up and those pounds melt away.

7. Change your link up routine

Instead of going to a bar or restaurant, arrange for an outdoor outing such as hiking, cycling or a marathon with your friends.
