Remember: Parents’ maintenance an obligation to children
WHEN relationships are broken many times men walk away and don’t support the children that were products of the failed relationships.
In these instances women are usually encouraged to go through the court system and obtain maintenance for their children.
But a common utterance from women is that they can’t be bothered to go through the process or they feel ashamed to bring their children’s fathers to court.
But legal provisions which provide for maintenance of children of a marriage, or any child of any man, exist for the benefit of children, and no parent has the right to decide to ignore them and leave their children in want.
The law provides that both parents are to provide for their children as much as they are capable of doing so and, as a result, it is best to make the necessary application to the Family Court or Supreme Court if one parent refuses to meet their obligations.
So parents, do what is right in your children’s best interests — and if this involves court action, act now.
