3 tips to avoid toxic relationships
Avoiding toxic relationships can be challenging when it’s so hard to identify one. But a toxic relationship can erode your confidence and have you feeling confused about who you really are.
Ultimately, this can stifle you mentally, resulting in depression.
Below are three tips to guide you towards avoidance.
1. How do you feel when you are around the person and spending time with them? If you feel inadequate as a person or they make you feel like you are beneath them, clearly that person is toxic and should be avoided. Anyone who puts you down or steps on your self-esteem is not worthy of you. A healthy relationship is the opposite – the person builds you up. Anything less, you are better without.
2. Are you genuinely yourself when you are around them? If you have to fake it to make it, you are better off without that person. No one should force you to pretend to be someone you are not or to indulge in activities that compromise your morals and standards. If a relationship is healthy, you are your best you with no pretending.
3. When you are not around them, do you feel relieved? If you feel free to be you and happy outside of their company, that person is toxic. If their presence annoys you or forces you to pretend like you do enjoy being in their company, that relationship is also toxic.
