THE inspiration behind the look came through the Jamaica Business Development Corporation’s (JBDC) Irie Magic Fashion Fusion 2018 programme, which directed designer Moses Fennel (House of Fennel) to draw inspiration from his mood — how he was feeling and what was happening in his general geographic area. And so Fennel created the pieces below, worn by model Daniella Davis, who recently jetted off to New York City.

The JBDC programme seeks to redesign and rebuild Jamaica’s fashion future through the development of the local talent in the industry. The fashion programme highlights the works of nine local emerging designers and recent Edna Manley College graduates, who are mentored and prepared to operate sustainable businesses with strong design identities and brand presence as entrepreneurs.

Below Fennel answers a few questions on his passion, and plans for the future.

1. How do you want women to feel when wearing this look?

I want women to feel like princesses and queens — feeling confident and beautiful while making a fashion statement.

2. What kind of woman would this look suit?

The look would suit a woman who often attends special fashion events or red carpet events.

3. What are some of your other upcoming projects?

Immediate upcoming projects include a fashion exhibition featuring a full commercial collection through the Irie Magic Fashion programme, among other fashion activities such as sponsoring a pageant gown (and a capsule wardrobe) to Miss Jamaica World 2018.

4. What is your favourite part about being a designer?

My favourite part of being a designer includes creating value for clients, exploring, creating and experimenting with various ideas, and seeing the outcomes. I like having satisfied customers.
