It is important that you put a bold line between your family and your relationship or you might find yourself in the middle of a hurricane. Below, several women vent about their experience of having their parents be a major problem in their relationships as they did not approve of their partners.

My mother hated my man from the first very second her eyes met his and it has made my life hell because she had to live with us for several years and everything was a problem for her. The problem was he was too “ghetto” for her because he was not as educated as I was. Ladies, never let your parents think they have a right to tell you how to live your adult life.
BM:
My mother never liked a bone in my ex and that caused us to break up because the guy couldn’t take the arguments and he told me that it was just too unbearable. Because of that I actually do not speak to my mother because she told him some very nasty things and I am actually embarrassed to be her child even if she meant well.
Chantelle:
I think if you have no boundaries then anything goes. My mother used to dictate my life to the point where I wanted to run as far as I could from her. I had to sit her down and level with her about my life. I had to let her understand herself and from then until now, we’ve been good.
Charlene:
My mother never like my husband at first and believe me she had a bad thing to say to every good thing I had to say about him and it was really driving me up the wall. One day I flipped out and just told her that if she doesn’t try to accept him as my husband she will lose a daughter and her grandchildren and she listened because she saw that I was being serious. I was fed up of the nagging about someone I chose and was married to. I think you simply have to take a stand.
Lilly:
I went through this with my mother and it caused me not to deal with her for eight years. I cannot be around someone who is disrespectful to my relationship and decisions. I will stay away even if you are my mother or even my child.
