5 red flags indicating a bad relationship

By Miss Kes

No woman desires to be in a bad relationship, and oftentimes it is after the break-up that we start to see all the flaws of our former lovers. While in the relationship we may be so blinded by the rose-coloured glasses that we become oblivious to the red flags being waved furiously right in front of us. What exactly should a woman look for as a red flag though?

1. You are almost always sad

If you are in a relationship and for most of it you are feeling frustrated, sad and depressed, it is time to consider walking away. A relationship is not going to make you happy all the time, but it should never have you at a place where you are constantly miserable and unhappy with your man.

2. You cannot be honest about how you feel because you fear he will leave

If you cannot state openly how you feel about a matter to your man, you are clearly living in fear. This is emotional abuse. While it is not as obvious as physical abuse, no one should be in a relationship where they are unable to communicate how they feel or argue respectfully on a matter.

3. Your partner is always unavailable

No one is unavailable 24/7 to the one they love. If he is always unavailable to you when you need him and he is only present when it is convenient to him, it is clear that he doesn’t consider you a high priority.

4. Your identity is nowhere to be found

If your relationship has forced you to change every single facet of your character, escape as soon as you can. While there is nothing wrong with making small compromises to suit your partner, no one has the right to change who you are, and it is pointless to pretend to be someone you are not. Your partner should add value to your life, not subtract. So if you find that you are losing yourself, maybe you should consider subtracting them from your life.

5. It gets physical

It is not okay for a man to hit a woman. Despite what abusers may say, abuse is never on accident but rather on intent. So once a man starts to pounce on a woman, that woman should not even give it a second thought to walk away as that may be a death trap.
