How to tell your friend her guy is no good
It is not easy to watch a friend in a situation knowing it is toxic and there will be no good outcome. It is also not easy to communicate to a friend, when, for example, you think her mate is bringing her down or that he is simply not the one.
However, if you approach it right, you can communicate respectfully. It requires some relationship coaching techniques – and one major technique in relationship coaching is to never tell your client exactly what to do, but rather give them enough information to make the right decision or choice themselves.
So:
Listen, and really listen
Do not listen just to go off on your friend and tell her the man is no good or that she needs to leave him because you know he is no good and he is cheating and lying to her. When it comes to matters of the heart, it is best to tread lightly or you could possibly offend when that was not the intention. Listen to what she shares and be open to different perspectives.
State the facts
Avoid sharing what you believe, but give factual information in a respectful and calm manner that will be easily digested. Keep in mind that she will probably get defensive.
Have patience
Even with the evidence before her, she might decide to stay with her man and work it through. Have little to nothing to say about it or it can be used against you. Just show respect and have patience because what is meant to happen will happen eventually.
Get help where necessary
If you see abuse, for example, involve other friends or family members and let them make the decision whether to get the authorities involved.
