It didn’t work because of work
Let’s face the reality – we spend majority of our time at work. As such it is not unheard of for people to fall in love with their co-workers. It is human and expected because when you spend most of your time around some people, it is almost inevitable that you’ll gravitate to them in some way.
But while this sounds like a walk in the park, it can be a trap in misery and in some cases cause people to be dismissed from their jobs. Below some women share their romantic work stories that went sour.
Rose:
I am going to be open and say to anyone who thinks it is okay to involve yourself with a co-worker – don’t do it! Ours started out being a secret and we tried to hold it together until our relationship was revealed as one of our co-workers spotted us at a club. I was called into a disciplinary session and I lost my job because some lines were crossed. I thought after I lost my job he would stick around, but that was wishful thinking. The guy literally changed his number and his address and that was it. I lost my job for a relationship.
Pamela:
My relationship was interfering with my job because I was a general manager and he was my subordinate and so the management team thought it was unethical. I initially went on suspension because he made some comment in a meeting that clearly showed that I’d shared some information with him, then shortly after I was dismissed. All I can say is that it is not wise to mix business with pleasure because it always backfires.
Rachel:
My relationship was the main topic in the lunch room at work and it started to really affect me in a deep way when we got into a serious argument on the outside of the building and our co-workers heard it and reported it. Management called us both into a meeting and basically told us that it was bad for their image and business and they asked us to decide who would say goodbye to the company. The guy sacrificed me and they dismissed me and kept him. I realised then that no relationship that is built at work can ever work.
Kimberley:
Having a relationship with a co-worker is bad for work. Once you and your partner begin to have problems, it will affect the environment and possibly your output and I am speaking from real life experience. I was dating someone in the same department and when things started to go south, it was so bad that I just couldn’t go work most of the days. I would go to work four times for the month. My attendance and punctuality were so bad – I was stressed out by the things he was doing in my sight and the rumors I would hear. It was a terrible experience that I would not wish my enemy to experience.
Denise:
Ladies, avoid this conflict and close your feelings if you catch some for a co-worker because as women, we are always at fault and in most cases they keep the man and dismiss the woman. I was in one but the problem was he was a manager and so I decided to leave because I had heard of them wanting to make my post redundant. It was an awful experience because I was just one of the many young women he was sleeping with in the company.
