Are women bosses harder to work with?
Women who are seated in CEO chairs are called on to be objective, emotionally shut-off and in control. But can this requirement lead to them being harder on their female subordinates than male bosses would? Yes, according to the women below, who say women bosses lack emotional intelligence and a heart.
JM:
I think some women should not be bosses because I think it gets to them and they forget that they are women and they treat other women like trash. I had to put my last boss in her place before I quit the job because I was tired of her abuse and how she treated me, all because she was having problems at home.
LC:
This one boss I had threw something at me and I swear if it had hit me, I would have been more than dismissed – I would be in jail. She asked me to work late and I told her I had prior engagements with my children and husband and she sailed something from her desk at me. I flew over the desk and gave her a nice slap out of her chair. I was fired but it felt amazing because she was rude. I don’t care who you are, I am treating you exactly how you treat me.
TG:
I could tell when my last manager was being abused because she took out her problems on her staff. She eventually resigned because I heard some argument flared up in a meeting and she told her manager some expletives and she was asked to resign. Women need to do better. You can be a boss but you have to manage your emotions too because it is not right to cast your cares onto others – they are not Jesus.
AL:
This one boss shouted at me in a meeting and I asked her not to speak to me in that tone and the lady carried on about it and even reported my name to Human Resources to get me transferred or removed from her department because I told her not to use that tone on me. It is like they believe it is okay to speak to others any way they desire and if you’re vocal, it is a problem.
RC:
My family says I switch jobs like underwear but it is simply this – if I get a woman as a boss and I realise that she doesn’t have it together, I am leaving that job because the only thing she is going to do is drive me crazy with her mood swings and all that drama. I like my sanity.
