WHEN you cheat, chances are you intend to keep your indiscretions secret. Some people face hefty consequences for their acts of infidelity, but fortunately for others, they seem to have all the luck on their side to not only go undiscovered, but in some instances play the field without a hint of suspicion from their mates.
Did you ever get this lucky? Some men and women who fall in the latter category have revealed how they cheated, how they got away with it, and the reasons that they did it.
Randy, 31, technologist:
Things were not good at home and I was unsure what I wanted to do, but when I met my current girlfriend while away last summer I was sure I needed to move on. So I started things with her even though I was still with my woman at home. It took me five months to cut things off with my ex. I couldn’t string her along any longer. I am happy I spared her the initial heartbreak, because she ended up still helping me out with school.
Timone, hairstylist:
I cheated because my boyfriend is no good in bed, and I missed the excitement of a good lover. But yes, I was just tired of the same boring sex and just needed a little spice in my life. I stopped though, because I felt terrible for doing it. I forgave myself for it because I know it would probably mean the end of our relationship if my man found out.
Earl, 43, security personnel:
I was beginning to have second thoughts about my girl and I was entertaining a little flirtatious kind of engagement with someone in my office. Anyway, two Christmases after, at an office party, the same co-worker not only walked me to my car, she gave me a happy ending. I then drove to a dark section of my work parking lot and I tell you, that girl did some things to me. If I am to be honest, she really put some life back into me. I did feel very guilty about cheating, but since I was already engaged I decided to work on things with my girl, even though I did mess around with the other woman a couple more times. It was nothing more than that and when my fiancée and I started counselling in anticipation of the wedding, I told the girl we had to stop and believe it or not, we did.
Erica, 37, pastry chef:
I think I cheated because it was easy, I got desperate, and I was horny. I was away on a job programme, the guy was from somewhere in Europe, and so it was unlikely that my man would find out. With the high stress situation and not having anyone around, I needed to feel wanted and this guy offered just that — he offered good sex, to be my personal massage therapist, my pillow partner, and he had my back at work. So for the last three or so months of the nine months, I spent my time with this guy and I can’t say I regret it because it was necessary for me to keep sane.
Sean, 33, insurance agent:
I think I just cheated because I am a man and they say that we can, and there won’t be any consequences. Truth is, I just did it because I could and because I know even if my girl found out she was not going to leave me. It’s the plain truth, but let us just say I am working on things so I can be a different man.
