Karmic encounters that prove God is not sleeping

BY PENDA HONEYGHAN

MOST, if not all, people who have been hurt in love have invested time planning the perfect revenge, even if the only place they will ever act it out is in their heads. Fortunately for those who simply do not have the guts to exact revenge, our dear friend karma has a way of making those who have wronged us pay, without us having to lift a finger.

Did your ex do you dirty? If you are as lucky as these All Woman readers, then maybe karma will soon collect her debt.

Celia, 28, business analyst:

He was my first love and high school sweetheart. We were together for two years and things seemed to be going well. I was also, unfortunately, naive, sheltered and I trusted him too much. With all those working against me, when I heard the stories that he was messing around and I approached him about it, he told me that I was not to pay naysayers any mind and that she was just a friend and not a threat. A few months after our two-year mark he came out of the blue and told me that he was having sex with her and was going to move on with her. Three years later he got engaged to her and within a month or so she gave him back his ring, and labelled him among the lowest of lows. He also found out that she had been cheating on him the entire relationship.

Michelle, 36, customer service representative:

The father of my child thought he would take up his brother’s offer to help him to get abroad. He went ahead and started a relationship behind my back with the woman. He told me he was going to visit his sick mother when he left knowing well what his intentions were. When he went he would barely contact me or his child and he didn’t really provide for her, but thank God I could do it on my own. About seven months following his leaving, I got a call one day, with him on the other end of the line telling me he was sorry for his betrayal. The woman was unable to file for him and waited until he was out of status to tell him. She had sold him lies and promises and he believed it. He played himself.

Markland, 40, business operator:

I remember how she ran out of the house and into the man’s car all because I had lost my job and wasn’t able to maintain the luxurious lifestyle because I didn’t want us to go to a place where we were hungry knowing that my business had run down. I didn’t know if I was going to get the monies owed to me for goods and services or anything like that. Anyway, when things got rough she left and I realise it was for the better because I was saving more — she was a hard spender. After a couple of weeks, she told me that the man beat her and packed her up and put her out because she did not take care of the house and his kids the way he wanted her to. She tried to get me to take her back, but I didn’t, because she was my queen, but she became someone’s trash and I am not a garbage collector. I still help her out, but I don’t want her back as my bona fide woman.

Sandy, 32, teacher:

I had a nasty break-up; the man cheated — the common stuff — and he didn’t have any respect. Anyway, I would still communicate with him and he shared that he was dating someone. I didn’t ask him for a picture or anything but he sent it anyway. This is not me tooting my own horn, but she was an older-looking, less qualified version of me. But that’s not even where karma gets real — the joke of it all was that this was the same woman who was my brother’s side chick. But, hey, who am I to judge? It’s a joy listening to him talking about his “money girl”, but that’s the way it goes when man nuh like work.

Troy, 39, mechanic:

I was talking to this young lady, nice-looking girl and everything. When her mother died I was there for her, helped her out with her son because the father wasn’t there, helped her with school and made sure I kept an eye on her ailing grandmother. After going out for a while she said she had something to talk to me about. She eventually told me that her high school sweetheart had moved back to Jamaica and things moved fast and they wanted to see each other. Anyway, I said alright because you win some you lose some. I didn’t know that this girl was an idiot — she was having sex with a man that she didn’t know anything about without protection. In the space of two weeks, she found out that the man gave her genital herpes and his wife came to Jamaica and gave her a proper thrashing. I just know that God is not sleeping.
