Reneé Menzies-McCallum is new WLI chair
EXECUTIVE Management Specialist Reneé Menzies-McCallum has been elected to replace banker Chorvelle Johnson as the chair of the Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI).
Johnson recently completed her two-year term.
Menzies-McCallum, who is group director of sales and marketing at Guardsman Group, is a former deputy chair of the WLI — a special committee of the United Way of Jamaica, a release said recently.
Supporting Menzies-McCallum at the executive committee level will be Deputy Chair Megan Dean; Treasurer Bernadette Barrow; Membership Committee Chair Chorvelle Johnson; chair, PR Fund-raising and Events Committee Marcia Erskine; deputy chair, PR Fund-raising & Events Committee Youlanda Nunes; chair, Advocacy Committee Nadine Heywood; deputy chair, Advocacy Committee Herma McRae; chair, Education Committee Sharon Lake; chair, Mentorship Committee Eva Lewis; and Judith Douglas, deputy chair, Mentorship Committee.
The WLI is currently celebrating 15 years of service to Jamaica in the areas of education, advocacy, mentorship, and women’s development.
The leadership initiative has, over the period, made considerable contributions to the basic school at the Voluntary Organization for the Upliftment of Children, providing equipment and teaching aids, funding a special-needs teacher, and helping to develop the institution to attain early childhood education certification, the release said.
The organisation is also working with other institutions to end child sexual abuse by hosting ‘Darkness to Light’ seminars for teachers, as well as care givers in child care institutions, on how to prevent, detect and treat situations of child sexual abuse.
Their Conversations With Boys seminars started in 2018, and are designed to give young men a platform to discuss , as well as gain guidance on issues which concern them.
