Masculine endurance 101
IT’S one of the most intimate and pleasurable experiences that we can share with our partners, as such, outside of the fear of being labelled a “one-minute man”, it is no wonder why so many men dread going soft on the job, arriving too quickly, or simply failing to perform well enough altogether.Never underestimate foreplayTry these foodsManage anxietyExplore less stimulating positionsExerciseQuit habits such as smoking and drinking
But if keeping the pleasure going for as long as you desire has been difficult for your guy, these tips from urologist Dr Gareth Reid and sex therapist Dr Sydney McGill should be enough to top up on your time between the sheets.
Foreplay is important when making love. It will get both parties in the mood, increases the chances of the woman producing plenty of natural lubrication, and it would have inched her, a little closer, to her climax. Dr McGill said that these are reasons why you don’t want to forget about foreplay especially if your man has an issue with endurance.
Some foods are natural aphrodisiacs; so incorporating foods such as oysters, avocado, hot peppers, chocolate, red wine, bananas, Irish moss, asparagus and honey into his diet could improve stamina. Dr Reid said that outside of these specific foods, a man should also have a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, legumes, nuts, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, skinless poultry and fish, and non-tropical vegetable oils. He said that some herbs such as horny goat weed, red ginseng and gingko biloba may also help with stamina.
One of the main reasons why men fail to endure is because they are unable to focus. Psychological issues such as stress and anxiety significantly affect a man’s performance because they can cause him to lose control and ejaculate prematurely. In fact, Dr Reid said that psychological issues could actually prevent an erection, so a man needs to get his rest and do something that helps him to relax such as listening to music or calming sounds. However, if stress, anxiety or other psychological issues plague him, then professional help should help him get over the challenge.
Stimulation is what usually results in premature ejaculation. As such, Dr McGill said that in this instance the man should go for positions where the underside of his shaft (the most sensitive part) is not being overstimulated. Examples of these positions are where the man’s pelvic and leg muscles are relaxed and/or when the woman assumes a dominant position such as during the “cowgirl”, where she is on top, or “spooning”, when both parties are on their sides.
A common denominator between men who fail to perform well in bed and even those who ejaculate prematurely is poor physical fitness. Yes, exercise is that important as it contributes significantly to the flow of blood throughout the body, including to his member. In addition to this, Dr Reid said that it also helps with managing health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease which are common culprits for causing damage to nerves which help with blood supply to the organ. If the nerves are damaged or the blood supply is restricted, this can interfere with a man’s ability to get or maintain an erection.
Prolonged smoking and abuse of alcohol can significantly reduce a man’s sexual performance. They have both been linked to long-term erectile dysfunction.
